| ****UNDER CONSTRUCTION**** We're still under construction here at Book Reviews and Writing News, but following is a quick snack. More later. Book Review TITLE: A Bride So Fair AUTHOR: Carol Cox ISBN: 978-1-59789-492-0 PUBLISHER: Barbour Publishing PUBLICATION DATE: 2008 Emily Ralston lands a job at the Children's Building at the Chicago World's Fair. She mets Stephen Bridger, a member of the Columbian Guards. Bridger finds a lost child and brings the little boy to the Children's Building. From that moment on Emily Ralston's life moves from quiet to quite exciting. Who is the little boy's mother and where is she? Could the body of a young woman found on the fair grounds be her? Carol Cox, an Arizona writer with 13 novels and 11 novellas under her belt, weaves a story that keeps the reader anchored to a chair, book in hand, as the story unfolds. Cox's quirky characters are well drawn and real. We are re-introduced to Mrs. Purvis, the landlady who knocks on walls and offers advice to the young women who rent from her. And some have found the love of her life during the time she has lived at Mrs. Purvis house. I recommend Carol Cox's A Bride So Fair. I would also like to recommend two other books by this author: Ticket to Tomorrow and Fair Game. All three are set at the World's Columbian Exposition, held in Chicago in 1893. Reviewer: Dell Smith Klein WRITING NEWS American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) ARIZONA NORTH WRITERS will not be meeting during the summer months. You aren't sure where you're going to end up and as you turn the last page you wish you could keep on going because the travel is bound to be easier from here on in. When Ollie Chandler says, "Things are often not what they appear," you know he's on track. Because my husband is an Arizona Ranger, I kept asking him questions about firearms, fake fingerprints, head injuries, and whether you can taste knock-out-drops in your drink. Each time Alcorn was right-on. Alcorn's Ollie Chandler is witty, tough, smart and often sarcastic--a perfect combination for a homicide detective. He has some friends that have their job cut out for them if they are going to get Ollie to accept their message. Ollie's spiritual struggle isn't over yet. I highly recommend Randy Alcorn's DECEPTION. Men will read it and women won't mind having it sitting on their coffee tables. Honorary Arizona Ranger, Chuck Norris liked it. So did I.
